David is a great podcast host. Interviews are always interesting. I really appreciate the episodes with shapers and the in depth discussions about board design. Lots of episodes with the veterans offer quick interesting history lessons.

There are a collection of good surf podcasts out there for sure. But there is nothing quite like the program David Lee Scales runs with Surf Splendor. It’s so much more than that “one weekly episode”, as there are a collection of shows that come from the roots of Surf Splendor with other guests/hosts/interviewees that will become mainstays in your surfing life. Surf Splendor’s “network” offers you something almost every day. This has become a multi-faceted, essential part of my own surf life, and it’ll do the same for most.

I’ve listened to most, if not all of the new surf pods over the last few years. And the Surf Splendor network is the best IMHO

David Lee Scales continues to impress. He’s bringing us surf icons from the past and present and allowing us learn more about them with thoughtful interviews.

I have some critiques of this podcast (rarely interviews women surfers for one) but in large part I enjoyed it. But then listening to the host show what I think must be his true nature on the Beach Grit podcast, I just can’t support it anymore. These bro’s are on the wrong side of history. You’ve lost a listener.

I am new to surfing podcast (mainly due to a recent fractured bone) and I have enjoyed surf splendor very much. David Scales is a thoughtful, knowledgeable and respectful interviewer. He challenges his guest with insightful questions while maintaining that delicate balance of reverence while searching for truth. The interview with Mickey Munoz was some of the best surf themed interview I have ever heard. I was greatly impressed with the wisdom and humility of Mickey and equally taken with Mr Scales. I am very grateful to have discovered surf splendor pod cast and straight up stoked to have hundreds of this quality broadcast to catch up and looking listen to. Thank you and even though I have only referenced the session with Mickey I have truly enjoyed every episode so far.

I have tried to listen to quite a few different podcasts about surfing, but there is a unique quality, humor, thoughtfulness, and insight in these podcasts that others lack. Thanks Surf Splendor for helping to keep the surf stoke lit!

Very sad to hear someone brag about how they dodged the draft when so many guys went to Vietnam and gave everything. One of the reasons surfers had a bad name at that time. Everyone has their own opinion about the war. But to brag about pretending to be Gay ???? When your not !!!! What a sad individual

Very fair assessment of the surfboard manufacturing industry today. It seems that Burt never settles for a mediocre product, and doesn’t seem like he’s ready to put down the design tools yet. I ride The Sunova performance SUPs, and he’s right about the ride characteristics, they’re awesome! Glad to hear that he and Nev are still still friends. Excellent podcast!

No commercials/sponsor ad’s in my podcasts, Please! ( grounds for unsubscribing) Plus the volume levels in this podcast seemed to get louder as the podcast went on! ( especially the sponsor ad) frustrating! More surf History questions-talk , less Business / Econ spiel !!

Entertaining and informative! David has a gift and is extremely skilled at drawing interesting story’s and fact out of those he interviews.

This podcast has a nice variety of topics to explore within the subject of surfing. But I’m frustrated by the very minimal female guests that have come on the show. There are plenty of women who I’m sure would love to talk about their sport, but the host appears to have blinders on. Please, please expand the gender diversity on this podcast.

The host is consistent in his demeanor and annunciation, if he wasn’t from Southern California I would think he is medicated. The podcast consists of strikeouts and homeruns, mr scales doesn’t swing and mess with his guests then I just typically a homerun. I have to admit The weakness of the show is not the host. #suckitscottbass

His analysis of ct events adds an extra level of enjoyment to following pro surfing. One thing- I’d like to hear more from women surfers, shapers etc. and more about women’s surfing. But overall, it’s well crafted, consistent and is one of the podcasts that I look forward to the most every week. .

As an often injured, often landlocked surfer, this is my favorite way to get a taste of surf when I can’t get in the water. Thank you!!

David does an amazing job finding and interviewing surfers, shapers, and those entrenched in the industry. The podcast is always well planned and David asks great questions that evoke interesting responses.

The judges pushed Mendes through with a crappy little backside shampoo.. Tuck in your shirt, bro. Everyone knows the WSL favors brazilians. Just look at the M.Rod incident in hawaii last year! How is that scum bag even on tour after banning Tanner H?!

David Lee Scales has created a wonderful collection of conversations with a wide variety of surfing personalities. I devour each episode. The interviews and format has evolved over time, reaching a new height recently. I highly recommend this podcast for anyone who surfs and/or is interested in surfing.

There are many prominent female surfers, shapers and surf-industry employees. This podcast is interesting but should reflect the fact that many of your listeners are women, and surfers and would enjoy listening to more female surfers telling their stories.

David Lee Scales is doing a great service to the vault of surf culture. Like most of his guests confess, many surfers – even the pros – don’t follow much surf media anymore. And that’s because we’re looking for more meaningful stories and conversations. Surf Splendor goes deep by providing a space for conversations in surfing that matter. David moves beyond the typical surf porn with a thoughtful and hardworking approach. He brings out the color and texture of the full lifestyle and characters that revolve around surfing both in and out of the water. It’s one part campfire stories with legends, one part history lesson woven together beautifully with modern day reflections. Mahalo for the cast!
