Farthouse

92

Certified cinephile cuties Casey O'Brien and Patrick Mallon are here to guide plebs and idiots alike through the world of arthouse cinema. This podcast serves as a spark notes version for those who do not care to watch these movies. Through a highly developed proprietary system called "The Fartsy Test," Casey and Patrick determine on a 10 point scale just how unbearably impenetrable and boring a given arthouse film is. Tune in every week and gain the social currency of talking like a snobbish asshole. They watch arthouse movies, so you can pretend that you did.

I love this podcast listen to it every night at work I don’t know many people to talk about arthouse movie so this rocks and I watched the smallest girl in the world and I thought it was great keep it up guys and my favorite arthouse film if you can call it one is Harlan County U.S.A

Cinephile Cuties and NOT Film Bros!
What started as a curious peek into a work colleague’s creative project has now turned into complete and utter fandom! My only wish is that it came out every day, like The Daily by the New York Times. Yes, I need the Fartsy Test like I need the news! I am now invested in every family member, every reality show, and every craft beer they discuss and I can’t help it! They are truly the only men making a film podcast that I can stand. Five stars!!

First time listener. Good show, good content. Funny banter, very good chemistry. More Audio clips from the film would have been amazing. I’ve seen this movie 3 times and it offers me something everytime. It’s horrifying and repulsive to see the demeaning and cruel things these adult men put these teens thru. I would have liked to hear a little more about the special features this release come with, especially the deleted scenes, the 3 extra endings, and there’s a great interview with Pasolini talking on set while in the background you see a setup.

Two dudes (lil and big) talking film, not at all incel-y (rare?)
I’ve recently entered the re-listening phase with this pod. The holy grail phase where the new episodes just aren’t comin fast enough to s a t i a t e. I’ve been meaning to throw up a five star review for a while. In a recent listen, caught Casey saying “that’ll do pig” to Patrick which glided directly over his head, and Casey, I want you to know you are seen. “That’ll do pig” is regular amongst my parting phrases.

Good podcast. Love it. Funny men.
I would hire Patrick if I was a hiring manager.

    Fantastic Film Podcast
Behold! The greatest film podcast in the universe! Casey and Patrick/peanut/the little dude/the bundler deliver expert conversations week after week on the artsiest fartsiest movies of all time. Nowhere else will you be able to find juicy behind the scenes stories of your favorite art house directors, such the time when one of the hosts saw Alfonso Cuarón get lost in a parking lot or the time one of the host’s parents almost ran over Terrence Malick with a car. This show has it all!
  • pg6630
    Great listen
I honestly don’t watch any of the movies they talk about but it’s so much fun hearing them talk about it that it doesn’t matter! I look forward to it every Tuesday!

    Soooo fartsy
Hey guys, I found you via your episode on Fellinis 8 1/2 and I’m hopelessly addicted. Looking forward to listening to some past episodes on several films I love.

    Farthouse, my Savior
Longtime friends of both hosts, I’m embarrassed to admit that I only started listening to Farthouse in the midst of a big house move the other week. Yes, I am biased to this program because I love these humans, but lets put friendships aside. I blasted through a gaggle of Farthouse episodes, new and old, and Casey and Patrick kept me sane and smiling during the mental and physical exhaustions of a soul-crushing move. Bless their considered takes, tangential banter, and generous spirits. They are thirsty cinephiles spreading the good word to us poor souls. Farthouse, my Savior.

    Superb!
Great production, great content, super likable, smart, well spoken hosts with really good chemistry. If you like to dabble in films that are a bit off the beaten path, this is the podcast for you!

Also, the best theme song of any podcast I listen to. The hosts have a great rapport and one of them actually seems fun to hang out with.

    New favorite podcast
I was looking for a new film pod when I came across this gem. Not only do Patrick and Casey cover great films, introducing me to an array of filmography I might’ve never watched on my own, but they do it in a way where they don’t come off as pretentious snobs. I immediately fell in love with the chemistry these two have, and it’s obvious these cinephile cuties are besties and I’m here for it. It’s been a while since I’ve listened to a pod that genuinely makes me laugh out loud, the release of dopamine is real. Farthouse is a true gift, and has lifted my spirits and for that I am very grateful. If you’re a cinephile, if you’re looking for a pod that oozes great vibes and is consistently bringing joy to your life, look no further. Thanks Casey and Patrick, you’re doing gods work 😎🙏🏽

    For your consideration
Do all of your friends think you’re a snooty artsy-fartsy poo poo head and won’t talk to you about “the cinema” 🤌, because they want to talk about the latest Star War instead? These boys will be your art house movie friends. They’re funny and insightful. I enjoy listening to the show every week and have even sought out some movies I hadn’t seen just so I can hear what they have to say about them. Sometimes I even listen without seeing the artsy film so that I can say that I did.

I HAVE AN URGENT MESSAGE FOR PATRICK AND CASEY
I love the show. Please consider fartsifying the 1960’s Japanese horror masterpiece Onibaba (which just entered into the Criterion collection on blu ray) It is genuinely a terrifying film and one of the most underrated in the horror genre. I don’t have any friends who have the same taste of films to talk to, so thank you guys for scratching that itch.
  • thestrangedays
    Love this podcast
These guys have funny and insightful conversations, I like watching the movies before I listen (even though they tell me I don’t have to)
  • Appleroach
    Great Film Discussions
These guys are a truly a dynamic duo that I’m so glad to have discovered! Casey and Patrick provide excellent discussions on some great films and do it with the banter that you only get from genuine friends. I’ve gotten some great film recommendations from these guys and get genuinely excited when they pick films I’ve seen (or give me an excuse to unwrap a Criterion that’s been on my shelf for months). The hosts are down to earth, relatable, and hilarious and do a great job keeping the conversations from feeling dull or pretentious despite the artsy subject matter. If you’re a fan of art house cinema or movie talk in general, definitely check out Farthouse!

    My husbands fave podcast
Let me first clarify I do not listen to this podcast but stay with me…my husband is very smart, loves to read, watch movies, & I’d be in trouble if I didn’t mention his large varietal taste in music. All of that to say, he is extremely intentional in how he spends his time. So I know this podcast must be good, that, or he has a low key crush on one of the hosts. I can hear him giggle across the house and within days he’s telling me about a movie he must see or telling me how much he loved an Arthouse movie and how much I’d hate it. Anyways, I’d say listen if you like movies and hate the real housewives.

    My Favorite Movie Podcast!
I discovered this podcast looking for episodes about Agnes Varda, which I was thrilled to find. I was thrilled even more to stumble upon the Funny Banter and Genuine Love that these hosts have for each other and for the CINEMA. I’ve been making my way through the catalogue slowly (watching films high on the Fartsy Score(TM) Scale is not an everyday thing) and hope that this podcast can stick around for years to come. Favorite part of the show is hearing whether Patrick owns it or not as I am a fellow collector. Thanks for cranking the pods out!

There is a 0.0% chance that I will ever watch any of these movies, but now I can pretend I did! Thanks Casey and Patrick!

    Just the Best
Casey and Patrick, love the show! I discovered Farthouse about a year ago, I had just seen Belle de Jour and was searching for podcast episodes on it. You two crack me up and your friendship warms my little heart. I’d love to see a Fartsy-scale chart to see where each film lands compared to the others! Keep up the great work!
  • Krazy Kris1
    Love it
Great chemistry between the hosts but Casey please stop eating egg shells it’s not good for you. I have seen maybe one of the movies discussed on this podcast and I still tune in every week.

    Hilarious!
I don't know how I stumbled on this brilliant show, but I love it! Not only are these guys (and their guests) hilarious they also offer some insightful thoughts about movies I will never watch. The dynamic of Patrick and Casey's friendship is worth listening to alone. I also love the Padres' mentions. If you're still doing nicknames for 5-star reviews, I ask you to call him "bubba" all show, so it sounds like you're talking to your large adult son.

I look forward to my weekly listening of Farthouse
The guys have a blast recording this and that fun and joy is shared with the listener. I try to watch the movies they review before listening, which defeats the purpose. Oops. Fart

From a Patrick to another Patrick (to a Case who I have not met): wowie! 60 more years should be no prob. Marty Scorsese would bow at your smelly feet. Werner Herzog would not avert his eyes from you if he came on the show, which he inevitably will. You guys ROK. Nickname for P: “Crumpet” tee hee

Art house films CAN be fun!
Each week this funny podcast helps you figure out if you want to waste your precious time on an art house film AND it makes you laugh while doing so. The hosts, Casey and Patrick, have an irresistible repartee which frequently involves Casey getting angry at Patrick. They are funny and make you feel welcome and comfortable, but equally important they are both very knowledgeable about film and have lots of insights into the art house world. They discuss the film, subscribe it to their “artsy fartsy” test, and they even give you something pretentious to say that will impress your peers. Come for the art house, stay for the fun! 🎥🍿

I’m not trying to cancel Pat, but...
he did tell me that 2 Fast 2 Furious was the single greatest work of Film ever produced and that it would only be better if Jean Luc Godard had directed it.
  • Natarooney
    This podcast saved film.
Yup, that’s right, these guys are doing deep dive discussions on *PHILM*, and it’s great. Approachable, funny, great banter - if you are a cinephile who streams criterion channel on a Saturday night, this is the podcast for you. Who needs actual elitist film snob friends when you can listen to Casey and Patrick? The best!

    Fart Nation
Why spend all that time watching a Fartsy movie when you have the Farthouse boys here to do it for you. Fart smarter, not harder! In return for this five star review, I’d like Casey to call Patrick “Officer Chad” for an ep, please.

    10/10
This show reminds me a bit of the show that got me into wine (wine for normal people), only this is for artsy films- and it’salso a good mix of fun and quick, essential educational tidbits. Casey and Patrick’s rapport is irresistible and it makes me feel more comfortable talking about artsy films in general- I knew Kieslowski’s Blue was boring AF! But also nice to hear what was important about these films and what kind of things these film nerds get out of them- highly recommend if you are into film/want to be
  • pseudolister
    So funny!!!
I love arthouse films but don’t really have anyone to talk about them with, so I like to listen to podcast episodes on movies I watch after I watch them. I found Farthouse after searching for ‘The Seventh Seal’ on Spotify and immediately fell in love with it! Casey and Patrick are SO funny and I love their dynamic together. After The Seventh Seal I just went through their whole collection and listened to all the episodes of movies I’d seen, plus the Mikey and Nicky one with bratpitt (also a delight, BTW!) Please keep doing what you’re doing guys! You’re really good at it.

    Farthouse
Absolutely brilliant podcast! Every Tuesday hosts Casey O’Brien and Patrick Mallon dive into the world of art house films. They pick the films, and we get to watch them through their descriptive and entertaining dialogue about the film. Two endearing hosts win you over with their knowledge of cinema, their quick wit, their personal stories and their friendship based on the mutual love of film. You decide which arthouse films to add to your queue based on the hosts “artsy fartsy “ score. Each week after listening to the Farthouse episode you will be armed with enough knowledge (and suggested pretentious comments) to pretend you watched the artsy film or you may decide to actually watch the film! Toss in a drink pairing for the film, compliments of Patrick Mallon, and you are all set for a great evening! Even if you don’t watch artsy fartsy films you will definitely be hooked on the podcast!!!!

The Cinephile Cuties make me feel like I’m with my friends N I luff them
  • Madspacehobo
    Awesome & definitely recommend!
Highly recommend if you’re into film. I personally have not watched a majority of the art house flicks mentioned in each episode, but I appreciate Casey & Patrick’s inate way of technically breaking down each film without going beyond the reach of the average movie fan. Every episode leaves me wanting more!! Fart Head for life!!!

    A Delight
Casey and Patrick have such engaging chemistry and their glee is infectious. The way they balance self-aware humor with just the right amount of film pretentiousness is an art in itself. A must listen for everyone who's hoping to come across a little smarter than they are at the next cocktail party.

Farthouse is silent but deadly (in a good way)
Before this podcast, I only could discuss certain films like Fast and Furious or Michael Bay’s Transformers. Thanks to the guys behind Farthouse, I’m now able to impress my friends (and the ladies 😉) with my new knowledge of art house films. Listen in and you too can be name-dropping Ingmar Bergman. Keep up the good work fellas!
