Movies That Raised Us

306

Once Upon A Time, Mo and Christina met in the big apple. While neither became Princess of Genovia or found their long lost twin sister, they did bond over the movies that put those ideas into their heads. If you scour the city looking for your very own Austin Ames, or, like to dream about the days when you preferred Lip Smackers to Lip Kits, look no further. Sit back and relax, as Mo and Christina cover everything about formative movies, flip phones, and growing up on Movies That Raised Us.

    my parasocial film club
i discovered this pod two years ago when i was looking for more content about my favorite DCOM (motocrossed) and after one episode i was hooked. i finished all the episodes of movies i had seen, but i wanted MORE!!! i used MTRU as inspiration to start working my way through my decades-long movie bucket list, revisit movies i hadn’t seen in years, and try some wild cards i hadn’t heard of before. at this point i watch movies just so i can listen to the corresponding episode afterward. it’s fun to hear mo & christina’s takes and pick up on details i may have missed. i love my little parasocial film club :) thank you girls! ⭐️ (i forgive you for your passport to paris episode. not everyone can appreciate real cinema.)

    Great Podcast
I’m a sucker for nostalgic podcasts, and I love that this one features such in-depth recaps of each film. It helps me relive the movies even when I don’t have time to rewatch them myself. Hilarious commentary as well!

    The best podcast
After a breakup, I started listening as it was always on my list. I started from the beginning and even though I’m still in 2022, I can positively say this podcast is amazing! Mo and Christina don’t know it but they helped me through tricky work days and hellish commutes. Were there when I was moving into a new place and figuring out my new life. Can’t wait to be caught up in 2024!

    simply iconic
this podcast is truly something special! i love the way that Mo and Christina talk about these films! They not only give amazing commentary and always find a way to take the thoughts out of my brain, but they also make sure to point out the downfalls of these films when it comes to race, inclusion, representation and all of the above! if you’re on the fence, hop off and get to listening!

Such a fun, introspective, intelligent podcast.
I absolutely adore this podcast. Christina and Mo have such a way with words and really make you feel like you’re just with the girlies chatting the day away about a movie we all saw last night. They have such great knowledge and perspective when it comes to movies, but also make you re-experience the magic of these films all over again. I struck gold when I found this podcast and so have you, so enjoy!! Thanks Christina and Mo for making my commute to and from work the highlight of my day. Also - thank you for my new favorite quote, “A man will never!!!!”

    HELLO, HELLO, HELLO!
Ladies a male ran podcast will NEVER be as enjoyable as this woman ran podcast is. The movies they cover a literally so nostalgic and the commentary truly captures what it felt like to be a young girl/teen/adult watching all of these truly iconic films. You honestly can’t go wrong by listening to Christina and Mo just talk about movies for hours. This podcast was made for the fan gurls, the gays and theys, the girls who are not like other girls, the Needys and Jennifers, the people who can’t stick to the status quo, LITERALLY everyone. 10/10 can’t recommend enough.

    Like a conversation between friends
Recently found this pod and have been reliving some of my favorite movie moments. The casual, yet knowledgeable, approach to the show really feels like the kind of discussion and observational humor you’d have with your best friends while sitting on the couch eating snacks. Only it’s better, in some ways, because Mo and Christina are just as invested in dissecting each rewatchable moment as you are.

    Hits on all the classics
Mo and Christina walk through all the 90s/early aughts classics with a super laidback, funny, relatable style, including discussing all the cringe movie moments that haven’t aged as well as we’d hoped!

I listen to this podcast literally every day
Started listening for the Twilight reviews and fell in love with Mo and Christina’s dynamic. The vibes are exactly like watching movies with my sisters - making fun of them while unironically loving them despite their flaws. My favorite reviews are the TATBILB movies, High School Musical, and the Lizzie Maguire movie. I listen to the pod at work and often have to stifle laughter (so I don’t look like a crazy person) because these two just crack me up. I appreciate the work you guys put into the pod!

    Like finding new BFFs
I discovered Mo and Christina a few months ago and have been binging ever since. I love their friendship and how it comes through in each episode. The vibes are so fun and welcoming. I especially love it when they bring someone new to my attention in regards to a movie I’ve seen a million times. I always feel like I’m having a kiki with my best girl friends.

    One of the best podcasts
Mo and Christina are so unbelievably funny and I love their movie choices! It always pushes me to watch things outside of my scope and I love that. They truly are so well versed in the arts and it shows - very great takes and I love their random tangents. You all make each week brighter! ❤️🎉

    Nostalgic!! I love it!!
So glad I’ve been following your podcast for quite sometime and love what you ladies have been doing. I wish I could put my two cents in some episodes as well lol. Just one question? Is there a reason you’ll go over a movie that’s apart of a series and won’t really revisit the rest of the series until? I guess I get caught up in your input and then we’re on to the next movie the next episode 😭. Other than that I really enjoy your podcast please keep it up!!!

    Peak Millennial Nostalgia
As an elder millennial, most of these films truly are the movies that raised me. Most of my Friday nights were spent with my friends at Blockbuster (really aging myself here) or at the local $1 theater seeing most of these films. Movies That Raised Us is always a fun trip down memory lane. Mo and Christina offer an often fresh perspective on these classic films with a great sense of humor. I have suggested this podcast to all of my 30 something friends if only for the sense of nostalgia. I just joined the Patreon and am not disappointed. Thank you Mo and Christina for giving me something to look forward to every Wednesday!

The podcast we didn’t know we needed!
This podcast popped up on my recommended, so so I thought I’d listen to an episode for fun. Now, I’ve gone back & listened to almost every single episode. My morning commute is so much better when I’m listening to these episodes! I’m a 2000s baby, but I still remember renting these movies from the library or watching DCOMs on TV. Mo & Christina are so fun to listen to & it feels like you were in the room with them, watching the movie. Ladies, a man will never, but this podcast always will!

    Take DCom’s Seriously
During pandemic, I realized that Disney Channel Original Movies might actually be my favorite film genre. A couple months ago I started listening to this podcast and I am so grateful that these two girls have completely validated that feeling. Mo and Christina talk about how feel good movies are just as legitimate as Oscar films and I love that. Plus their banter and unexpected tangents are so entertaining. This is my current favorite pod to listen to as I commute to work. Thanks for helping me take my inner teenage girl more seriously! Insta: julestaylor95

    My Favorite Pod!
I absolutely love my Wednesday commute thanks to this podcast. I truly sometimes forget I'm not friends with Christina and Mo in real life. It's so kind how responsive they are on instagram. I was so happy when they announced the Patreon, I immediately joined and love getting an extra episode every month. Thanks for the content ladies! Carly Dye Insta: carl_dye

Relaxing nostalgic escape meets 2000's media bootcamp
Thanks Mo and Christina for creating content that is somehow warm and relaxing but also a pop culture bootcamp. I wasn't allowed to watch much TV and movies as a kid so this has been a real exercise in actually understanding pop culture references and what throwbacks I really need to finally watch. It has also brought me a lot closer to my new sister in law, who is the exact same age as I am but way more media literate. Couldn't recommend more.

    A movie fanatics dream podcast!
My favorite hobby is to watch movies. Specifically re-watching iconic movies that left a big stamp in pop culture. This podcast hits the feels. It is thorough and well presented. These two are absolutely hysterical and they aren’t afraid to tell it like it is. I’ve tried to listen to other movie podcasts but they remain superior! I just had to subscribe to the Pateron because I just can’t get enough!! Thanks for all the great work you do!!

    One of my favorite podcasts
I have been listening to the podcast for probably over a year now. I got another podcast recommendation in a similar style, and I’ve listened to a few episodes and it’s just not the same. I didn’t realize how much I love you guys going into so much detail, and breaking down literally every scene. I used to only listen to your episodes of movies that I’ve seen and know well, but now I am going back and listening to ones I’ve never seen, just because I enjoy your guys’ analysis so much. I love putting on your podcast when I’m doing dishes or organizing stuff throughout the house. Can’t wait to see what’s coming next

    Love it!
Been listening for a while but finally leaving a review! The pod has been a great way to enjoy some of my favorite movies. It feels like hanging with friends exchanging our takes on some iconic flicks.

    Twilight Talks!
I found this podcast while looking for an accompaniment to the twilight movies. I was absolutely dying as the hosts (along with Twilight Talks) analyzed the …interesting choices made by the director (and by Stephanie Mayer) of Twilight. I felt like I wasn’t alone in thinking that despite the compelling romance, that the characters in the saga’s books/ films are absolutely over the top and truly WILD. Love you guys & can’t wait for the reactions to Breaking Dawn!

    👨‍🍳💋
I stumbled across this pod thanks to the twilight episodes they did featuring sarah from twilight talk, and now I’m going back and listening to other episodes because.. I’m hooked. Their chemistry is amazing, the commentary has me laughing like I’m in the room with them when I’m usually gridlocked in traffic and should be crying. They are not afraid to point out when a movie suggests something politically incorrect or depicts a negative stereotype. They just create a safe environment for people of our generation to reminisce (or make fun of) some of the movies we grew up with. Even though they made me realize Eclipse is objectively the worst twilight when I had previously categorized it as number 1 ( I know I’m exposing myself), it was time to look past the side burns 😫 so thanks for that!

    The Podcast That Always Delivers
This is a podcast that never gets old and is highly relistenable! Whether you are going on a hot girl walk, stuck in traffic, or just wanting to escape real life for roughly an hour and fifteen minutes, this is the podcast for you. Mo and Christina are two hosts that seem to always be enthusiastic, informed, and nostalgic about the movies they recap/review. Although I disagree with many of their opinions of Bride Wars, it’s like listening to two friends over the phone talk about all your favorite movies! Some of their standout episodes that would be great introductions to a new listener are: My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Ice Princess, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, School of Rock, and Wild Child (which I listened to without having ever watched the movie and had a blast) Wednesdays never seems to be quite as bad when a new episode drops! Definitely give them a listen! IG: gonebookreading

    Great pod
You guys get me through my work days. I love your movie choices! In 2019 my sister got married, and I was maid of honor. Rather than write a speech, I chose to bring to life the “my best friends wedding” scene from the seafood restaurant. I even bought lobster claws! Pics and short vid are on my Instagram - cieplak2 So fun listening to this episode!

    Awesome throwbacks!
I have just started listening to Movies that Raised Us but I can’t get enough. My cousin Chelsea and I are the same age and geeked out over the same girly movies when we were kids and now we text each other about MTRU all the time! Ella Enchanted is the movie we put on when either of us is sad. Thank you for bringing back all these great memories and giving me and my cousin more to bond over! Love this Pod!
The iconic Grease tiktok from MTRU is what got me to listen, and the girls amazing re-tellings and commentary are what kept me listening! Mo and Christina have covered some of my favorite movies as a kid and inspired me to watch movies I’ve never considered watching. There are only a handful of episodes I haven’t listened to out of the 100+ available! Keep up the good work ladies!! I look forward to Wednesdays every week!
