Loved latest ep - clinical empathy
Thanks for this episode. Ironically or not, this is what hospice and palliative care vets do on the daily. We have to weigh all the options. I am forever grateful for my veterinary education (Go gators) because I feel they set us up for success in this skill alone. From the beginning, we were taught to offer all the options, work with the family, and provide the care that they chose. It’s a conversation. I’ve found that more owners appreciate my openness my listening and honesty. I’ve treated a pyometra my first year out of school without surgery. Owner and I had a deep conversation and they knew the risks of not doing surgery. The pet was euthanized but they and I didn’t feel like we failed. We did the best we could in the situation. And I didn’t feel like a failure because I wasn’t the decision maker. I still go home wishing some clients would or could have done something but I know it’s not on me. I’m not in their shoes. All I know is I’m here to help and I can do no worse than Mother Nature. Thanks for opening this type of chat.

    LOVE #186
Shelter veterinarian and veterinary nurse advocate here. Our credentialed nurses/technicians are often unrecognized and devalued when veterinarians struggle to utilize their talent and training to its fullest potential. I hope standardization of the profession is prioritized by state regulatory authorities as advocates continue to demand a seat at the table. Great conversation. To my techs out there, you are irreplaceable and I am grateful for what you do.

    Thank you
I appreciate hearing a voice in vetmed advocating for US! There are so many pressures that people outside of vetmed don’t understand and managers/owners willfully ignore. This should be required listening for everyone.

    Fantastic listen!
Just came across this podcast and I’m already a huge fan! The information shared was honest and practical. I especially appreciated the episode about salary; it shed a lot of light on questions I’ve had myself but don’t feel comfortable discussing with my colleagues. Looking forward to following along. Thank you Dr. Roark!

Love your podcast! Don’t know how but just recently discovered that you had a podcast. So glad I did. I’ve been binge-listening. You were my ‘celeb’ guest speaker for my vet tech virtual graduation in 2020. Thank you so much for all you do. I will continue to pass the word along about your podcast. -Jessika

    Good fun info
This is easy to listen to and follow along with even if you don’t know too much (like me) about the deep vet topics. I’ve been a vet tech almost a year and I love getting these updates and tips.

    Justification
It’s amazing to find place that my thoughts on the direction vet med can go and what we can do to find our personal QOL are not made to sound “crazy”. This is a great listen for anyone who thinks.. there just has to be another way..a better way! Thanks you For bringing awareness and solutions. Most importantly thank you for the understanding and the compassion.

The episodes are just the right length and have not too much information I forget everything, but enough that I can come out with some easy to remember pearls of wisdom. They are great to listen to during my morning runs to start the day!

Great podcast for veterinary professionals and students!
As a vet student, I love not only hearing from Dr. Roark and all of the wonderful guests, but how topics are presented in clinically relevant contexts. This makes it easy to visualize myself in similar situations, and to really consider what I would do and how to incorporate what I learn over the course of any given episode. There are a mix of shorter and longer episodes, which I like, too. This podcast helps keep me focused on the ultimate goal through all of craziness of school!
  • Practice, indeed!
    Associate Veterinarian
Excellent podcast. I routinely come away with a few gems of knowledge and a concise and funny refresher that brushes the dust-of-ages off my veterinary education. Every week, I inevitably mentally access some knowledge I've garnered from the Cone of Shame. Just listened to the RACE CE approved podcast. Without any in-person CE these days, it's great to have another venue to access continuing education. Please keep them coming!

    Great veterinary podcast
Dr. Andy Roark’s podcast is wonderful. They are quick and concise while bringing specialists in the field to do some case based learning. The humor and wit of Dr. Roark always goes well with his guests and keeps it entertaining for all. It’s great for seasoned vets, newbies and even techs as well! Thanks for always having great content to share and keep the topics coming! PS, I already started clicker training my own cat!

    Informative!
I was a vet tech as a young person. It was great work that I enjoyed, but have not had much reason to think about in ~30 years. It's neat to be reminded of things I used to know, and hear about new things I never knew!

The 15 minute lectures we need
As a new graduate, struggling to organize all that information, this is great for a refresher, AND exposure to things we may never have heard of before. Staying current and hearing the passion for the profession, and care for one another, Dr. Roark is an inspiration. I cannot speak highly enough about this podcast. Great way to spend road time or to unwind at the end of a day. Blessed to have found this.

    My favorite podcast!
Just love Dr. Roark’s podcasts! They are always incredibly informative and don’t take long to listen to, which is a plus during these hectic days. Many thanks for always being upbeat and supportive of your fellow veterinarians! I just listened to the “Outdoor time for indoor-only cats” podcast and thought it was delightful and eye-opening. I walk my 15 year old kitty with all of the issues on a leash and have a stroller for him! I don’t feel so alone now and I am definitely going to discuss this with clients to improve environmental enrichment (from a fellow crazy cat lady). Keep the podcasts coming! 😊

Simple, to the point, important information!
I love this podcast! Not only is the information important and easy to conceptualize, but it’s not overwhelmingly in depth. The quick conversations are enough to listen to on my commute in to work and it helps set my mindset for a successful, mentally tough day. Can’t get enough of the great topics covered!

    Little Episodes, Big Info
I’m a big fan of this podcast. The little snippets of info help me stay up to date in digestible chunks that squash into my busy day. I also love that Dr. Roark does a couple recaps in each show. I’m usually doing something else while listening (driving, getting ready for work, on hold with some company) and so the little recaps keep me honest to if I need to go back and re-listen or if I’m comprehending. Thanks Dr. Roark for all you do for the Vet Med community!

I listen to these podcasts while I run and they are very informative and easy to follow. He always seems to ask the guest speakers the same questions I am wondering about! I highly recommend these podcasts.

    Variety of topics and helpful!
I do love the breadth of topics covered. I would like to hear on the exotic animal podcasts more of the diseases that can occur besides management issues. Thanks for this resource!
  • Amanda_0502

    Thank you!
I just wanted to say thank you for the What Substance Use Disorder Recovery Can Teach Us About Overcoming COVID-19 podcast! As someone in recovery, I really appreciated that y’all acknowledged such a relevant issue, and the importance of connection and service for our well-being. It also gave me some confidence to know that there are veterinarians in recovery, because I will be applying to vet schools soon, and am worried about how my experience might be viewed. Your podcasts are awesome!

    Yessss
This podcast is worth a listen! Dr. Andy is so good at validating frustrations and putting forward positive suggestions. The HDYTT episodes are digestible, and I always walk away with a new pearl, even if I think I’m already proficient in the topic. Don’t cherry pick the episodes—just listen to them all! My only complaint is that I binge-listened, and now I’ve run out of episodes!
  • Kalaiala
