    Somehow Makes Sound Engineering Easy-Listening
I subscribed to a handful of shows on the subject so I could have the jargon and lingo in my head as I start learning this stuff. As expected, most of it was super boring and above my head, but this guy somehow manages to be interesting and above my head. He’s still talking about stuff that I don’t fully understand yet, but he does it so patiently, and explains things so well, that I feel like it won’t be long before I know all about it. Whereas most other shows make me feel like I’ll never catch up to the amount of knowledge I need in order to do anything. Bottom Line: Informative Easy-Listening.

    Great teaching skills
Well as a guy who work for some years in these kinda things I mostly know about the topics but there’s so much space and confusions in my knowledge cause usually nobody teach the reasons to you and most don’t know the reasons themselves But the cool thing about these videos is that I understand the reasons behind and even get the reasons for other made up rules they fed me, to the point where you can come up with things you want and your sound need and mr colletti is a really great skilled teacher for guiding the hows and whys theoretically and feelingly There are tons of people having opinion on these topics but I never saw a more convincing person

    Fantastic!
Justin’s great. He knows his stuff and will challenge you without talking down to his audience.

    this podcast is an ad
Nearly every piece of advice, every tip, every concept, has a disclaimer something along the lines of “this wont even make sense until you buy the course” or promising details and explanations and then cutting off saying “thats too much for now, just go get my course”. The best way to review this podcast is said by the author himself: “maybe if your already able to hear every minute detail of every parameter change, then this free podcast is good enough for you, but otherwise go check out my product”
  • BrySharpe
    Great information!
Justin knows his stuff. This podcast is a great balance of affirming the things you’re doing right, challenging bad habits, and also presenting new ways of thinking about your approach. The way info is presented covers lots of perspectives and situations.
  • Brian Alexander Music
    Really insightful
Justin mixes in the craft and the business of music production - the latest episode from 4/19/22 focused on how to build your network and ‘reel’ for example. Extremely relevant topics for us hobbyists, semi pro producers and pro engineers! Can’t recommend this podcast enough.

    Audio Wisdom!!!
I’m sooo thankful I found this podcast! Justin breaks down every concept that you need to understand in order to take your music productions to the next level. This truly is a treasure trove of audio wisdom. It’s a little different from the normal audio tutorial type stuff, this podcast is about how to think about audio production more than technical knowledge. Sonic Scoop podcast is pretty much a free 4 year degree in Music Production. AMAZING!!!
  • BIG PAIPS
Step your game up and get Justin’s course
Seriously I have no other words than “greatness”. Just start listening and don’t stop. Get the course and create a deeper understanding of mixing philosophies to make knowledgeable decisions from here on out. Thanks so much for the knowledge!

    Very helpful podcast!
Justin breaks down topics into digestible bites, and distills the more technical information down to what really matters when working with audio. Highly recommended!

    Insightful Spoonfuls of Audio Wisdom
One of my new favorite sources of encouragement, pro tips, and “been there done that” kind of advice for folks getting into the music industry. Justin knows the craft well and is an excellent communicator, offering lots of insight into a complex audio world with engaging and easy-to-listen-to chunks of advice. Thanks for the information and inspiration!

    Awesome Podcast
Great insights and excellent presentation. I really like the no nonsense approach Justin takes to the episodes. There is no annoying theme music or sound effects, just great info presented in a very consumable way. PLUS once I heard Jiu Jitsu mentioned I knew there was a reason I liked it so much 😂! Great work, and thank you!
  • Tally Klecko
    Really enjoyed the thanksgiving episode
I think the aspirational audio world could use more of the big picture of the business and personal habits and work ethic - something I struggle with and have struggled with forever. New listener, but really good first impressions.
  • Jim@greatsoundstudio
    Excellent advise
Listen to everyone of these. I learn something every time I listen.

    Love Justin and Sonic Scoop
Justin is an amazing person and a fabulous engineer. He brings years of experience and a deep knowledge to every session he makes. You can’t help but to learn from him!!!!
  • Kyle Resto
    Justin is great
I never do these reviews, but I really have gotten so much from Justin's podcast that I owe it back to give praise where its due. I'm a professional audio engineer that primarily mixes/tracks HipHop/Pop here in NYC. I started as an assistant, worked my way up to tracking, then moved on to mixing like so many before me. I still continue to try and learn as much as I can about this crazy thing called the music business and this podcast helps with that. He gives great practical advice for technique as well as things to help me tighten up projects I'm pursuing through my own artistic endeavors. Thanks Justin. big fan of the pod.
  • GoOutsideMusic
    Great podcast all-around
Justin is a great teacher, goes in depth without rambling. He also brings a human element that is refreshing, particularly because he comes off as a genuinely good person who is passionate about not only music and engineering, but creativity, fulfillment, and self-reflection. Unusually high-quality content from a thoughtful person with a soothing voice. Highly recommend!
  • Drumbo Limbo
    Automatic Listen
Justin does a great job teaching so you not just have answers to common challenges in mixing and mastering, but also so you are better equipped to ask your own questions and dig deeper. Like anyone with experience, Justin has his own opinions about subjective matters, but he always frames topics and questions through the lens of, “It depends,” which is always the right philosophy. An automatic listen for me every time, whether it’s a short or long episode. Give it a try by looking for topics that interest to you to start. Thanks, Justin!

    I never miss an episode
I love Justin's teaching style, and have learned a great deal from this podcast. I bought his Mixing Breakthroughs course, based on the podcast, and have been extremely satisfied with that as well.

What You Need to Sharpen Your Ears
Whenever I’m mixing songs I get up in the morning and as I’m drinking my coffee I listen to this podcast or Produce Like A Pro. It helps me prepare for job ahead. My mastering guy says these are the best mixes I’ve ever done and I have been mixing for decades. Living proof it works.

    An excellent listen!
Justin's combination of knowledge, focus, practicality and likability is why I always click play when I see that a new Sonicscoop podcast is available.
  • CapKirk1963
    Great Resource
I’ve learned more from Justin and the crew in the last couple of years than I picked up on my own in the previous ten years. The podcast is superior to any other studio production learning resource that I’ve encountered anywhere. Sonic Scoop Rocks!
  • closedmri
Lots of good guidance and information
Great and thoughtful host, excellent show and content. I like that there’s no music in the show

    Justin = Mentor
I just finished listening to episode 63. I've been listening since episode 1 was released. Justin has become my mentor. Seriously... The information, advice and wisdom that this guy gives you (for free) is priceless if you're an audio engineer or striving to become one. I take away something valuable with every single episode. I couldn't ask for a better podcast. Thank you, Justin!
  • J Dawg Studio - Fred
    Informative,relevant mixing podcast
Justin does an excellent presentation on topics for making your mixes better. He is thought provking, not just offering specific how to fixes.
  • AlexGoforth
    Favorite Audio Podcast
Justin and his guests are some of the most insightful engineers I’ve come across. Absolutely love this podcast. 10/10 would recommend :)
  • Thomas who loves pancakes
    Well communicated
I stumbled on one of Justin's SonicScoop videos a few months ago, and was immediately engaged. There's a ton of mixing and pro audio content out there and much of it is worthwhile, but for whatever reason, Justin's manner and way of explaining things just resonates especially well for me. This podcast only has a handful of episodes as I'm reviewing but it's what I've come to expect from Mr. Colletti, with an added focus on music business concerns. There will be guests as the show goes on and I'm sure that will be great, but I hope the solo format doesn't entirely go away. You're lucky if you find someone that just seems to break through the noise in your brain as you try to learn this stuff -- that person may or may not be Justin C for you, but this podcast is certainly worth a listen.
  • Carl Nova
    My new favorite podcast!
Justin couldn’t be more clear and eloquent when talking about audio. Right to the point, concise, practical information. I just wished it would be a little bit longer. Thank you Justin and Sonic Scoop.
