Love how intimate and creative Z’s interview style is- gets to the heart of things and a really honest picture into a creative person’s life where music plays a starring role. And the musical performance at the end is magical! If you love music and art, give it a listen.

Lena Marie SchifferThe Bird Dogs love this podcast! My band Laney Lou and the Birds Dogs has been cruising through all of the episodes of Show on the Road since we discovered it a couple of years ago. There’s nothing more inspiring than listening to people you know or wish you knew talking about things we can deeply relate to as a touring band. Show on the Road covers every topic of a traveling musician, from great venues and memorable gigs to the worst gas station stops or divey hotels. Two of our favorite episodes were with John McCrea from CAKE and with Dave Simonett from Trampled by Turtles. Thanks for keeping us entertained Z!

The Burnout SpecialistMy Favorite Music Podcast!I’ve listened to easily 40-50 of Zach’s interviews and I’ve learned something knew and been inspired in every episode. We often listen in the car on family road trips and particularly love discovering new artists like Larkin Poe and Sammy Rae and the Friends. We’ve also gotten to know better other artists that we’ve been playing for years like Shovels and Rope, Keb Mo, and JD McPherson. He reveals so many insights about each artist in an entertaining way on his show that you can’t help but like them, Zach, and his incredible band Dustbowl Revival even more!

JenGrooveDCFor All Music Lovers EverywhereZac is a great curator, mixing it up with artists from different genres and generations. He’s introduced me to a range of musicians and deepened my appreciation of artists I already knew. His conversations are wonderful explorations of the communal humanity and individuality of music. Bravo! And a warm shoutout to his band- Dustbowl Revival - first introduced to me years ago at the Rhythm & Roots Festival in Bristol, VA. Great venue and wide range of musical talents!

sgilbergMy new favorite music podcast!Zach brings a fresh format to the musician interview, with a friendly, humorous, unpretentious style that brings out some truly amazing storytelling. Top quality musicians dish on everything from their worst gig or hotel room ever to their dream festival lineup. Zach also gives us a peek into their creative process live with free word association and timed writing exercises. The song at the end is the cherry on top!
-
EgmbbqAwesomeWell done. And what a great idea! I love the concept of the mobile studio and recording interviews at the festivals. When Tim O’Brien was playing I think I could hear the sounds of the festival in the background. For me this was a plus and made it the podcast more authentic.
-
JoeratsLove this podcastI love the insight from musicians! Their stories from the road!
-
PgustyInsightful interviews with Americana artistsZach has settled into a nice groove with his interviews of Americana artists as he crosses paths with them at festivals and on the road with his band Dustbowl Revival. He has the ability to engage other musicians through his experiences and allows the artists to provide insights into their creative processes, influences, and a look into their life on the road. I’ve enjoyed his interviews and the song at the end of the interview is like tasty frosting on a piece of cake (chocolate of course).

G. K. StuartA Must Hear For Music LoversLive music (and dancing to it) is my favorite experience in life. In fact, I’m currently on a cross country road trip specifically to attend festivals, check out thriving music scenes, and camp in beautiful locations. I travel solo with my pup, so long stretches of driving often lead to podcast binge listening. Finding this podcast is like a dream come true! The questions Zach has for the musicians he interviews are unique, personal and often amusing. He touches on topics that I’ve never heard mentioned in typical interviews... a whole new perspective... probably because he, himself is an experienced touring musician. The Wild Reeds episode — I loved the exercise with the notebooks. Such a great way to spark creativity! The Shook Twins episode — how fascinating it was that the sisters responded to so many ‘first thought’ questions simultaneously with identical answers! I’m anxiously awaiting episode 3! Thank you so much, Zach for this superb & insightful entertainment! - Gretchen Stuart

hannah411Better than I expected!I expected an interesting podcast where musicians talk amongst themselves, and I sit with ears perked, removed from the scene. However, I was sucked in. Zach is a great interviewer. The questions were witty and thought provoking. And who knew, I’d get several artist-exercise moments just from listening. I’m walking away with a short story and the verse 1 of a song I started, just from Zach’s amazing prompts. The guests are solid musicians and interesting folk, and from a girl who likes her podcasts, this is well produced and Zach has a good voice for this podcast world. New favorite for this new fan!!
-
Cmaron18Great Content!Really enjoyed the first episode and look forward to more! Z does a great job crafting questions that open up topics and ideas not heard in the typical band interview. The perfect podcast for musicians, aspiring musicians and people who sang a lot in high school and now only perform at karaoke bars (<— me).
