    Timeless interviews
Great hosts and the interviews are often with game designers and developers who clearly love to share what they’ve worked on and give insights about how game development worked back in the earlier days. If not for this podcast we’d likely never hear these stories.

    Good retro video game podcast
Good retro video game podcast with great interviews. Appreciate the interviews with retro and homebrew developers.

Show used to be amazing, but has clearly fallen off
This used to be a must listen, highlight of the week type of podcast, but in recent years is mostly filler content. Dan and Ravi still have great chemistry and as a listener from the US, it was great to hear their computer/Amiga perspective instead of the console centric perspective. Joe, even after all this time, doesn’t really add anything to the show and regularly detracts from it with unqualified/unresearched claims. It’s clear he has a Youtube/Wikipedia type of perspective, so doesn’t really leverage or understand the context of the times being discussed. It’s clear that they have exhausted many of the truly great guests and feel the need to dump out a show regardless of whether the news stories or guest are quality. I wish the show would come out in a season/series type of format with fewer episodes, but back to the original quality.

    Piece of home!
Lived in the UK till my early 20’s then moved to the USA. I stumbled across this podcast last summer and have been hooked ever since. I love listening to all the chat and stories that give me great memories of my childhood (some I even forgot about). The interviews are always top notch. I travel a lot for work, and The Retro Hour makes the boring flights a lot more enjoyable! Oh, and the Christmas shows are always so much fun. Keep up the great work fella’s!!!

Professional and well organized (NPR quality) game podcast
I listen to several retro gaming shows, several that claim they are “number 1” but the Retro Hour is truly a top notch show. Dan Woods’ talent as a radio producer along with interviews and commentary by retro gurus Ravi Abbott and Joe Fox have kept me as a subscriber for years. Each week these guys present the news and activities going on in the global retro scene as well as host a fantastic interview with a veteran of the vintage gaming industry. There isn’t another show like this one out there. It is consistently high quality and the extras available to patrons make it worth supporting the show. If you are into Nintendo, Sega, Commodore, MS-DOS, Amiga or any other retro (or modern) gaming platform, you should definitely subscribe to the Retro Hour, you won’t be sorry that you did!

Used to be a great retro podcast. $$$ has brought it down.
A couple years ago this was a great show, but now with the Patreon, ads, and even a kickstarter now for mostly a printout of their interviews you could have already listened to, it has gone way downhill. Part of the problem is likely the need to pump out an episode eveyweek, regardless of content quantity or quality, to keep the revenue stream going. On top of that, there seems to have been a drastic drop in IQs of the hosts recently as they spout unfounded nonsense about retro hardware and software. Like claiming early DVD-ROM drives couldn’t read CD-ROM discs? Look it’s OK to make a mistake but take that out in editing or something, geez. The interviews are still pretty good usually, so maybe just skip ahead to the good part. It’s a shame that what used to be a great show has turned into a mediocre gab-machine by the perceived need for funding.

This podcast captures the stories of truly amazing developers in video game history.

Love but… Patron $ too high.
This is a great show with fantastic guests and wonderful hosts. The issue is only in the costs to become a patron and be a part of their community. Lower the costs and it’s 5 star. It’s like a loot box for podcasts - I don’t think the hosts are striving for that comparison.

    Aphrodite Interview ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I grew up in Chattanooga,TN and believe it or not, Aphrodite was a regional favorite (1994-99). We all saw him in ATL w/ Mickey Finn eventually, and that might have been the highlight of our life’s up to that point. Thank you so much for this and all the content in general.

    Ad fatigue
Great content being drowned increasingly each week. Tired of being sold products and memberships during each and every episode; additional local ads before, during and after. IMHO, poor taste & choice to increase this during 2020 COVID.

The Retro Hour Podcast is a must for the retro game community
The retro hour is hosted by 3 great guys who love talking about retro video games. Dan Wood, Ravi Abbott, Joe Fox host my absolute favorite weekly podcast. I’ve learned so much about gaming that I never did. I loved the interview about Vectrex, Atari history with Nolan Bushnell and Al Alcorn. The guys passion for the interview by their questions during the interview. My wife loves the British accents like Ravi says “it’s FANTASTIC”. Guys keep up the amazing work and keeping our beloved consoles alive!!!

    I love it!
I love this podcast. Its very good. But may you do me a little favour? Im german - so im not a native speaker. I can understand you (most times) pretty well. But sometimed you are a little to fast speaking. You are very sympathic. Dont change your kind to speak. But maybe you can speak a liiiiiiitle slower sometimes. 10% slower ;) and i could easily understand every single word. Thank you in advance

    Gold-standard of retro podcasts
Been listening to these guys for 6 months & they've been absolutely fantastic. They have a pretty balanced reportoire of platforms they cover - there's a lot of focus on the British micro scene, but they also venture out into other platforms pretty often and have a pretty extensive pool of interviewees. Stuff like their PLATO episode is a must-listen if you have any interest in historic tech.

The Retro Hour is one of my favorite hours of the week!
Dan and Ravi have a great thing going here. You can tell that they love retro-gaming and technology, and have a real passion to stoke as much interest as they can. The guests are each fantastic - it is so interesting to hear the stories of the creative and entrepreneurial people behind the technology of yesterday and today. To top it all off, Dan and Ravi are genuinely likeable, funny, interesting blokes who bring who they are to the podcast. Well done guys, keep it coming!

Outstanding look at Retro gaming in the 80s and 90s
If like me, you grew up in Ireland or the UK in the 1980s and loved the computers and game systems of the time, this podcast is for you! Its full of old school gaming from the 80s and 90s with a slant towards the systems available in the UK and Ireland at the time - I love it particularly for the Amiga stuff, which both Dan and Ravi are huge fans of too. Very professionally put together and interviews from all major developers, publishers, musicians and artists of the retro gaming days. Frankly, I don't know how they get so many quality interviews! Absolutely amazing. Anyways, keep up the great work and carry on producing the excellent podcast that I look forward each week.

    Best retro podcast.
This podcast keeps you up to date on the latest retro news. Even as an American, I still have fond memories of the Amiga back in the late 80's early 90's. This podcast takes me back :) Also, they give great interviews on a weekly basis where they go in-depth into gaming development history. I look forward to this every week :)

    My Favorite Podcast
I got into podcasts years back with The Widget. Since those guys stopped doing their show I have been serching for a podcast to fill that void. There is lots of good stuff out there, but The Retro Hour really nials it. It is a top notch broadcast. The quality of guests that they get is incredible and the fact that they do it every week is abslutely amazing. I really enjoy the format of the show as well. Retro news in the first half of the show and an interview in the second half. The length of the show is perfect. Just long enough to get all the information you need, but short enough so it doesn't drag out. Dan and Ravi are great interviewers, entertaing to listen to, and loaded with retro knowledge. Even though they say they are UK focused, I live in New York City and love every second of it. Keep up the great work boys! Amiga4Ever!!!! -- Bill

    Great, well-made podcast.
It's a relatively new show, but it's well polished and they have a great guest every week. Love the personalities and the subject matter. My only complaint is the news and interviews seem to be recorded separately, but they put them together in one episode, which is fine, but it's a little jarring and strange when the hosts sign off and say goodbye in the middle of every episode. I think that should be edited to the end of the episode.
  • JAMNIC101
    Best retro gaming podcast around!
As a Scottish expat living in the America, this podcast is a god send on my drive to work. I'm a big Amiga fan so this podcast really hits the mark for me. I also love the Megadrive and SNES too which get some coverage from time to time so it's all good. Also, anyone reading this review that's not familiar with Dan should go check out his youtube channel for more Amiga goodness. Like this podcast, it's a well produced channel. Keep up the great work guys!

    The best of the bunch
If you grew up during the computer boom of the 1980s then this is a fond stroll down memory lane. It is a UK-centric podcast so be prepared for that kind of humor and you may not have heard of some of the machines they talk about but it's still a lot of fun. A refreshing change from the other Apple-centric retro shows out there and the guests have been a lot of fun. so far. My favorite retro computing podcasts by far.
  • hybrid_racer
    Love it
Professional, entertaining and rather charming. At an hour or so, doesn't overstay its welcome and always leaves me looking forward to the next one. Excellent guest interviews too. Keep it up!

    Now then, now then
Popular in GBR 8-bit & 16-bit microcomputer talk with a hospital radio vibe. If one is looking for late-80s to mid-00s Japanese produced TV-Games & Coin-ops content-look elsewhere.
  • Foooobaaaaar
    Superb.
The thing I like most about Dan's commentary on computing is that, in stark contrast to other retro podcasts, he doesn't spend the time laughing constantly and embarrassingly with his co-presenter. Instead, we're treated to adult discussion of retro computing news, which frankly is a huge breath of fresh air! Well done Dan.

    Quality Podcast
Listened to the first episode. I myself am not amazingly knowledgable about tech. I found the host entertaining. A definite listen for anybody with an hour to spare!
