YA, We Read It!

Friendship, adventure, first kisses, first fights, and sometimes supernatural: Young Adult novels are a treasure given to us by authors around the world. Best friends and comedians Laura Petro and Meggie Gates are sitting down for their very own book club to reread the series that shaped their school years in ”YA, We Read It!” because yes. Yes, they did actually read it.This is a podcast on Audio Mint Podcast Network.

    Nostalgic and hilarious gold
Letting me relive my childhood/teenage years through mostly cringey books (but occasional good ones!) without actually having to go back and read them- I love it! You guys are hilarious and thank you for making this podcast keep it up!!

    Like hanging with friends
I am so happy to be alive at the same time as this podcast. An absolute inspiration to the people who lived through the times of YA’s popularity in the 2000’s. Highly recommend starting off with their Twilight saga.

    With love from NYC
Unbe-tweenably outstanding. Joined for their Karen McManus One of Us is Lying coverage and have loved the author interview one-off’s mixed with the season long reviews. Sometimes I’m laughing right alongside with them and have to take a minute to recollect myself! Would love to bring these girls to Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville sometime if they’re ever in New York.

Really great podcast for 2000’s kids
Growing up queer we didn’t have a lot of stories just for us. I enjoy the hosts looking at the Young Adult genre as fully formed adults and talking about the harmful media we grew up with and formed attachments with can still hold a soft spot in our hearts despite everything. I also really love their anecdotes!,,

    Redefining the YA Genre
My daughter and I are long time listeners of YWRI and I’ve finally gotten around to giving them a review. Meggie and Laura have really been such a staple to my life these past few years and are such a joy to put on while I paint. I get to connect with my daughter over books she loves and feel like I’ve gained two new friends in the process. They really make you feel as if you’re in the room having a conversation with you! I 100% recommend for not only the seasons, but occasional one off’s and author interviews. If you’re a YA fan, this IS the podcast!!!

    Purely Iconic
I’m just wrapping up the Uglies season and starting on Gossip Girl and I really love the energy the hosts bring to discussing not only fun bits, but also relevant topics to society. Especially in the Uglies, they really dove deep dissecting parallels between current technology, Instagram face, and Scott Westerfields world that essentially predicted the future. I don’t have time to read old YA books I used to love and this is a great way of revisiting my past. If you’re a 2000’s book worm, I highly recommend

How can you not love this podcast? The riffs on Nate’s Viagra addiction had me howling. They deserve all their flowers and more.

Love the podcast! You mentioned there being 12 gossip girl books but there are 13. It has to be you is the 12th book/prequel, I will always love you is the 13th/covers college!

    ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I found YWRI through Reddit and am extremely impressed by the nuanced conversations that take place on the show. The hosts cover every base of the plot in an incredibly organized fashion while interweaving jokes and personal anecdotes in a way that doesn’t feel clunky. The dunking on Nate Archibald in the Gossip Girl series and the inclusion of his dialogue made me so nostalgic for the books. Thank you for the journey 🌟🌟

Listen, they are incredible. The absolute Roman Empire of podcasts. I just absolutely love them and can’t get over Maggie and Laura dissecting books I grew up with to get at the problems I grew up with. They make me feel less alone. Pee on me

I didn’t know what to expect with YWRI but it exceeded expectations. The hosts are warm and so loving. They make the material so fun and really give books I used to love a whole new meaning. As an avid ya reader, I can’t imagine a better podcast

    Not What I Expected
I’ve (30F) been a longtime fan of the Clique books since I was 11 so I was really excited to find a podcast discussing them since they’re obviously not popular anymore. I really wanted to like this podcast but I can’t when the hosts only want to pick out everything wrong with the books. It’s also weird how they want everyone in the books to be lesbian or gay - one or two times I get, but every episode they mention it and it just loses its significance after awhile. I understand that these books were written over a decade ago so some storylines will be very outdated, but I guess I was hoping to listen to a podcast that discussed the books in a more positive light. I am glad to see other people are enjoying the podcast though so maybe it’s just me! :)

    Such a Great Holiday Podcast
I cannot sing the praises of Meggie and Laura enough. Ya, We Read It! is easily my favorite podcast, hands down. Their banter is funny, insightful, and concise, something not many podcasts can do- especially for books over 300 pages!!! Can’t wait to say I was a day one fan when these two blow up!!!

    A Critical & Important Perspective
When I was a young teenage boy, I didn’t really think critically enough about the media I was consuming. That means I didn’t critically think about the way men and women were portrayed in media. It wasn’t until a friend of mine pointed out that the Transformers and the Twilight franchise’s came out at the same time that media tends to criticize what young women were into as opposed to what young men were into. This podcast is a great eye-opener to those young men who don’t understand that…and I’m sad to say it took me this long to realize it, that maybe we should re-examine some of the media that came out during our informative teenage years. If you have to listen to any particular series of this podcast, I think the Hunger Games episodes are the best place to start because Meggie and Lauren really break down Katniss’ journey in a way that I (who only read the first book and saw the movies afterwards ), didn’t think about until after listening to their podcast. In other words, if you were a dumb teenage boy like me, you should listen to this podcast because it will, hopefully make you less of a dumb teenage boy…if that makes any sense 😅

    A fun book podcast!
This podcast has released plenty of episodes on YA book series like The Clique, The Hunger Games, and The Vampire Diaries. The hosts, Meggie and Laura, do a great job at recapping them in an entertaining manner and poking fun at them for the many ways in which these books can be YA-ey. If that’s what you’re looking for, then I recommend tuning in.
