Orthodoxy

"Orthodoxy," a series of essays by Gilbert Keith Chesterton. First published in 1908. Read by David "Grizzly" Smith."The only possible excuse for this book is that it is an answer to a challenge. Even a bad shot is dignified when he accepts a duel." This is how Chesterton explains "Orthodoxy," the sequel to Heretics. "I have attempted in a vague and personal way, in a set of mental pictures rather than in a series of deductions, to state the philosophy in which I have come to believe. I will not call it my philosophy; for I did not make it. God and humanity made it; and it made me."This is a book about Everything, about the reasons for the entire Universe and the existance of Humanity. Andit's kinda funny. except for the serious parts and the sad parts. It's about all of life, and human life includes humor, drama and sadness, so that's all in the book, too. The chapters look longer than they are, each being roughly an hour -- and no, it wouldn't have worked to break them in half. I've found them a very quick listen.Hope you enjoy this book. If you liked Heretics, you'll like Orthodoxy, because it's Chesterton. And if you do, please share it, please comment about it, rate it, blog and podcast and Tweet about it. Oh, and let me know. :)The music is "The Rule," from Kevin MacLeod at http//incompetech.com. Thanks!

Great job with a great book.
Mr Smith has a great voice for narrating Chesterton! I very much enjoyed his rendition of this classic work.

    Good narration, garbage book
I feel bad writing this because I appreciated the narration, but that’s not the problem with this podcast. This book is atrociously bad. Those first few chapters in particular are completely nonsensical strawmen or atheist arguments that Chesterton still fails to knock down. I cannot believe this book is considered some kind of a modern classic. Chesterton’s logic is at best faulty and at worst downright idiotic. Admittedly, it gets better after the first three or four chapters, but at that point I was so annoyed with this book I still had a hard time reading it. This podcast is the only thing that helped me to choke down the last three chapters of this book or else I likely would have put off reading it forever. If you’re planning to read this book/listen to this audio book, do yourself a favor and skip to chapters 5 and 6, then stop reading after that because those are the only two that are mildly worthwhile I’m still giving it three starts because I appreciated the narration for helping me finish it, but this book is a waste of pages

    Orthodoxy
David Grizzly Smith is far and away the best Chesterton reader. If it weren't for the American accent, I'd say it's the closest thing possible to Chesterton himself. The inflections seem perfect for where and how Chesterton meant them, and it's a relaxed and enjoyed reading. Please Mr. Grizzly, give us more Chesterton. The Everlasting Man would be fantastic.
